Hemiptera: Gerridae
Gerridae sp
Water Striders are sometimes also called "Jesus Bugs" because of their ability to walk on water.
They are predators, sensing their prey, generally aquatic insects, by monitoring the ripples on the water surface. Once trapped, the prey is stabbed with the strider's beak.
Apparently hunting together often takes place, not unlike wolves in a pack, and juveniles keep at a safe distance as the adults' fondness for a feed can exceed that for their progeny's continued existence.*
